Position Summary:. Responsible for managing, directing and monitoring all operational aspects associated with the daily operations of the Financial Clearance Center. The supervisor will provide direction and support to the team to assist with establishing clearly defined workflow requirements. The Supervisor will assist the Assistant Director with setting and implementing the strategic goals for the Financial Clearance Center to ensure adoption and adherence of quality standards that minimize the institution's risk and enhance the patient experience. This position is responsible for overseeing and enforcing compliance with Tidelands Health policies and procedures. Prepares, analyzes and summarizes reports made available to the Assistant Director regarding productivity and the quality of staff performance, with recommended strategies for operational improvement.



  • Responsibilities/Duties include:
  • Develops, implements, supervises and monitors processes related to eligibility and verification of benefits, pre-authorization of services, patient financial assistance and financial counseling activities
  • Provides direct support to the other Pre-Access Supervisors and sets works with team to ensure appropriate expectations regarding verification, pre-authorization, collection and counseling standards through established departmental policies and procedures
  • Responsible for the development of new programs to improve the coordination and delivery of financial clearance related activities to ensure ongoing maintenance of efficient and effective operational workflows related to the financial clearance new and existing patients
  • Demonstrate, through plans and actions, that there is a consistent standard of excellence to which all department work is expected to conform
  • Collaborates closely with key stakeholders in Patient Access, including direct interaction with physicians and clinic support personnel on all financial reporting matters, operational outcomes and issues to assist with developing and maintain productive working relationships
  • Ensures appropriate communication is maintained with physicians, Patient Access support staff, third party payors, and the patients and their guarantors to assist with optimizing appropriate financial clearance, timely access to care, appropriate billing of services, maximum revenue collection and high customer satisfaction
  • Supports the Assistant Director in developing financial clearance strategies that support operational improvement, optimization of reimbursement and ongoing enhancement of the patient experience
  • Assist the Assistant Director with any required education, training, hiring, evaluating and counseling of employees
  • Provides assistance with special projects as assigned
  • Ensure that the staff members adhere to all organizational standards, are productive, and produce high-quality work.
  • to understand compliance needs, patient access concerns and overall monitors the patient access functions and completes other duties as assigned while exhibiting exemplary Tidelands Health core customer service values.
  • Supervise, evaluate and train staff.
  • Complete patient pre-registration and financial counseling, ensure all forms are appropriately signed.
  • Ensure departmental policies are followed.
  • Makes sure that all hospital wide policy and procedures are adhered to by reporting staff.
  • Ensures a productive flow of the daily schedules.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skill and effective communication.
  • Monitor and track patient flow
  • Manage and organize budget in collaboration with Revenue Cycle Leadership.

  • Five (5) or more years of significant experience with the following:

Direct supervision of Patient Access department.

  • Exemplary communication and self-management skills required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated experience with having strong interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Prior experience with interpreting and following detailed policies required.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently think and make judgments in interpreting and adapting guidelines and making judgment decisions on specific problems required.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle projects and task efficiently (time management) required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform highly complex computerized procedural tasked required.
  • Passing post offer drug test required.
  • Demonstrated prior excellence with interpersonal customer focus and problem solving skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively among internal and external departments, as applicable, to identify and help resolve enterprise-wide challenges.
  • Solid understanding of HIPAA transaction sets and compliance with HIPAA privacy laws.
  • Contract analysis and negotiation.
  • Working knowledge of best practice, contract management system logic, basic reporting skills, and payor policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional MS Office suite proficiency (Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio).



  • Must meet one of the following:
  • High School Diploma with a minimum of ten (10) years healthcare patient accounting experience OR;
  • Associates Degree in Business related field and a minimum of seven (7) years healthcare patient accounting experience OR;
  • Bachelors Degree in Business related field and a minimum of five (5) years healthcare patient accounting experience.
